Black Americans in the Workplace | The Daily Social Distancing Show

Trevor Noah enlists current voices of Black Americans in today’s workforce. Some quotes that I’m thinking about from those interviewed:

" A lot of what we do, are the things to make white people feel more comfortable around us."

“White males are hired based on potential, blacks are hired based on demonstrated accomplishments”

This video is a current reminder to me, that the issues Peggy MacIntosh wrote about in her 1988 essay "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack" are just as present in 2021, even though big name companies have sent out messages of support of Black Lives Matter.

“They’re not asking people to hire Black people just because they’re Black they’re asking companies to stop not hiring Black people just because they’ Black.” - Trevor Noah
